To enhance the practice of integrated pest management (IPM) of key oil palm pests through basic and applied research.

Achievements

Achievements

1.

Coordinated and monitored the long term establishment of the pollinating weevil, Elaeidobius kamerunicus which was imported from the Cameroons, West Africa in the 80's

2.

Determined the biology and life cycle of the most common bagworm species, Metisa plana. Produced a handbook with simplified keys for the identification of bagworm parasitoids and predators commonly affecting bagworm and nettle caterpillars. This information is also packed into a multimedia diagnostic tool, PARATOR V.1.0.

3.

Determined the most suitable flowering plant for the propagation of insect parasitoid for the control of the bagworm. Initiated seed production of Cassia cobanensis for use by the Industry.
