AOTD is embarking on a system called OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Services 18001), an international certification programme similar to ISO 9002 and ISO 17025. Under this system, we have to disseminate to our workers all information on how to do their jobs in a safe manner. By implementing OHSAS 18001, we can ensure that our work areas are safe. Our aim is to enhance safety awareness in AOTD as well as MPOB. We will conduct a lot of training to create greater safety awareness among our workers. OHSAS 18001 cannot be successful if people are not trained to carry out the procedures as specified. In addition, OHSAS 18001 will also help on how to enhance the maintenance of records for reference and ultimately our documentation of OSH matters.
We are now working towards obtaining this certification by early 2009. We are working closely with SIRIM to create this system for AOTD which is one of the divisions in MPOB in this programme. The other division is the Finance and Adminstration division.
