Background

The Tropical Peat Research Institute (TROPI) Unit was set up in September 2008 at MPOB to conduct research and development on oil palm planting on tropical peatlands in Malaysia and addressing issues of carbon balance, greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions and biodiversity on tropical peatland.

 

Vision

To establish an excellent research & development centre for tropical peat ecosystems in Malaysia.

 

Mission

  • To conduct research and development on tropical peat soil for planting oil palm in order to address issues of carbon balance, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and biodiversity on tropical peat.
  • To generate and disseminate knowledge and information on managing tropical peat for continued development and productivity of oil palm and other agriculture crops.
  • To facilitate researchers and students to conduct research on tropical peat in order to enrich the local expertise on tropical peat.
  • To become the centre of excellence and world’s reference point for all studies on tropical peat.
